Doubts, of various types, underlie some of the reticence to commit, in one way or another, to the Christian gospel, whether it is the reticence of an unbeliever to move forward into serious engagement with the gospel, or whether it is the reticence of a believer to express faith openly, where those around are skeptical. Or it may be the reticence of one committed to one of the main world religions, who does not really take Jesus seriously at all.
