Modeling DEPENDENCY: a Lesson from the Life of a Mentally-Challenged Girl

I would like to introduce a life story that has been inspirational to me.  A young Irish girl left home and went to work, in the 1800s, in Ontario, Canada.  She was very limited in her abilities -- had not, for example, been able to learn to read, and was not only limited, but frustrated, as well.

Ann Preston, later known as "Holy Ann," became a believer, and eventually also eventually learned to trust, becoming a huge example of God's strength being made perfect in weakness.

I think that this example sometimes helps me more than the examples of saints who have been persons of great ability, since it is often in my weakness that things seem utterly hopeless.  Not that the examples of the latter are not helpful -- it is just that I seem to find myself in the position of Ann than of theirs!  So, that's a personal thing!

I have not been able to locate a children's version of the Ann Preston story, but I shall continue looking.    The book, "An Irish Saint," went through many publications in an assortment of languages soon after being published for the first time.

It probably should be required reading for life, I'm thinking.

There are various free sites on the web where it is available, including that of the University of Toronto press, but I thought that the format in the free PDF version, below, was one of the most readable:

Here is a quick note from the cemetery records, which may be interesting, as well:

It has been called "the greatest story ever told." Now the central message of the Bible is brought to life in this eleven-hour online Bible study. This self-paced course has been adapted from the popular award-winning DVD series, The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus.

Your teacher will take these individual elements and chronologically tie them together into one universal drama. Whether you have significant Bible knowledge or have never read "the Book," this online series is for you.

Everything you need to study the Bible, all in one package. Share with family and friends and enjoy watching in the comfort of your home.

The Lamb: e-book and audiobook: "It's All About the Lamb"

This is a gospel presentation sometimes seen on DVD, but available at the link below in e-book format.  The focus on the sacrificial lamb and then, on the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world deals with the problem of sin, and, in the oft-repeated line of the story, "how to punish sin without punishing people."
The memorable closing line, referring to the Bible,  is that  "It's all about the Lamb."  And it is.

Link is:  The Lamb

NOTE:  this e-book and CD can be purchased in the following languages:

Spanish

There is a PowerPoint edition of "The Lamb," as well.

Free Illustrated Bible Portion: Narrated: John 1-10

Here is a Bible narration designed for kids who are a little old for Bible story books, as such, but a little new at actually reading the Bible for themselves.

The reader for the audio is Dale McConachie, who has the guy next door manner and voice, and who, in addition, does a very clear rendering of the Holy Text.

This free download, plus another that is available for the Book of Genesis, gives a pretty good idea of what the whole Bible, narrated, with drawn illustrations would be like, should you wish to purchase it at some point.

Here is the link you need for the free download:

MORE Messianic Prophecy for Kids: "Follow the Threads"

"Follow the Threads"

Above is a link to yet another book dealing with prophecy for kids.  This one has a workbook format, and there are many activities that kids would enjoy, all while learning about Messianic prophecy.

Here is a quote to give you the idea of the scope of the workbook, whose author is

Brynn Padrick

This resource would be perfect for teacher-led groups in camps, messianic congregations, and churches as well as providing enough support for students studying alone. It is the author's hope that adults may enjoy the book as well, perhaps for a new insight, but also for the tie-in with weaving and the attempts at humor throughout. This book largely follows Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum's Messianic Christology.

The age suggested is 9 to 15 years old.

It looks to be a great resource.

Many Free Illustrated Bible Stories -- Cartoon Medium

Here is an interesting link to illustrated Bible stories in a compelling form:  the same form utilized in "comic books," at one time referred to as "funnies."

Here's the link:

The Illustrated Bible: Free

Illustrated Audio Bible

For those with younger Sunday School students, the following may be of interest.  It is an audio reading of the NASB version of the BIble, with illustrations that can be followed visually.  Here is the link:

Illustrated Audio Bible

The video download can be converted, at no cost, apparently, to a DVD.

The video Bible is available in several parts, so that the whole need not be bought at one time.  If one is not buying this video Bible, but merely listening to it online, then there is no cost.

For those who have Androids and the like, later pages on the link, above, inform as to those situations.
